Guided tour of Bevagna, lovely medieval village.
Guided tour of Bevagna, intact medieval village.
Typical of a tour in Umbria is to discover and explore small characteristic villages. And the perfectly preserved medieval village of Bevagna has become one of the most well known in Umbria for its medieval traditions and culture and also for housing every year in June a historical festival called “Festa delle Gaite”.
Festa delle Gaite (“Gaite” means “quarters”) takes place in the village itself, with enchanting old squares and beautiful alleys as a scenery. Focus of the town is piazza Silvestri, recently theater of movies and advertising spot with the Romanesque churches of Saint Silvestro, Saint Michele and the nineteenth-century Theater “Torti” in the background.
Bevagna belongs to the area of Sagrantino wine production, near the town of Montefalco. Therefore in its surroundings, just few steps out of the town citywalls, you will enjoy splendid views towards the Umbrian hills and the vineyards. Furthermore since there are many wine cellars in the area, we could also arrange a stop for tasting the famous local red wine and other typical Umbrian products.
