Assisi Franciscan tour
1 Day Arrival – S.M. Degli Angeli
Pick-up and transfer to your hotel in Santa Maria degli Angeli (Assisi’s new district). In the afternoon you will have some free time.
2 Day Assisi
Transfer to Assisi old town and meeting with your local private guide for visiting the birth place of Saint Francis. You will visit the famous Basilica of Saint Francis, the Basilica of Saint Claire and Saint Francis father house. Lunch in the city. In the afternoon you will drive up the Subasio mount for exploring Carceri Hermitage which is a splendid Franciscan monastery surrounded by a magnificent forest of centuries old trees. After that your tour will go on with the Sanctuary of Saint Damiano where the female Franciscan order was founded by Claire of Assisi. Free time in the old city, dinner and overnight.
3 Day Excursion to the Sanctuary of La Verna and to Gubbio (9 h)
Pick up at 8.00 am and start your day trip by private van with driver and local guide to La Verna Sanctuary and Gubbio. La Verna monastery is located on the place where Saint Francis of Assisi received the stigmata in 1224. Transfer to Gubbio where you will have some free time for lunch. After lunch you will enjoy the walking in Gubbio with your guide. The town is famous for its medieval stone houses and for two episodes related to Saint Francis life. Francis there met the wolf of Gubbio and he got the donation of his first tunic. You will be back to your hotel around 5 pm.
4 Day Rivotorto - Spello
This day is dedicated to Rivotorto’s Sanctuary which is the place of the first Franciscan settlement. After that you will have a tour of Spello and an extra virgin olive oil tasting in a local oil mill. You will be back to your hotel in the late afternoon.
5 Day Franciscan sanctuaries of Greccio and Fontecolombo
At 8 am pick-up at your hotel with private van and local tour guide to start your day excursion to Greccio’s sanctuary, place where St. Francis did the first crib for Christmas time (1223) and Fonte Colombo’s sanctuary, where Francis dictated the official Franciscan Rule. You will spend your lunch time in a typical restaurant nearby the two sanctuaries. You will be back to your hotel around 5 pm.
6 Day Orvieto
Half day walking tour of this famous town on Southern Umbria. The city is worldwide famous for its impressing Duomo and its views. You will have lunch there and after some free time you will return to your hotel around 5 pm.
7 Day Departure
Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to the airport.
