Underground and Etruscan tour and walk through the tunnels of the unique Rocca Paolina fortress, to reach Porta Marzia, the southern entrance of the etruscan city. The reinassance architect “Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane” included the impressive arch  in the walls of the fortress, as a memory of the glorious past of  Perugia.

A short walk along Corso Cavour and you will reach the San Domenico convent, home of the Archaeological museum. Considered on of the most important archaeological collections in Central Italy, this museum contains a large number of artifacts, from paleolithic to the roman period. Here you will admire also the famous “Cippo di Perugia” (a fundamental step in understanding the Etruscan language) and the extraordinary “Cai Cutu” tomb (completely rebuilt in the museum).

From here you will head to the 22 centuries old Etruscan well, close to the main square of Perugia. On the way you will pass through the arch of St. Ercolano, an etruscan gate renovated in the middle ages. The well, with a maximum depth of 36 meters, was the most important water tank of the city and a masterpiece of Etruscan hydraulic engineering.

You will walk up to the beautiful Porta Sole viewpoint, and then down to the northern gate of Etruscan Perugia. The imposing 23 centuries old Etruscan arch, restored and decorated by the roman emperor Augusto 40 years before Christ, represents for many, the best example of Etruscan architecture in the world.

You will proceed along the panoramic via Cesare Battisti to admire the huge travertine blocks of the Etruscan walls and reach Piazza 4 Novembre, ending point of the tour.
