Trekking in Umbria

Here are some of the tours and excursions which I have created for people who wish to explore the fabulous Region of Umbria. These itineraries are suitable for everyone who enjoys good health and who own a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

  • The Eremo delle Carceri on the Monte Subasio - Half day
The Subasio Mount, RegionalPark since 1995, has been always known as the Mount of Assisi. Our walk, which will lead us to one of its most fascinating corners, the Hermitage of the Carceri, will start from the town’s walls. Surrounded by a thick wood of ancient holm oaks, the hermitage was built in the 15th century near some caves once used by S. Francis and his first monks to retire and reflect. Silence, deep colour and with the feeling of the past in every stone, characterize this very special place - one of the most evocative of the area around Assisi.

  • Benedectin monks and the Monte Subasio - Half day
Our walking will start from the Hermitage of the Carceri and it is possible to combine it with our other walk to ‘The Eremo delle Carceri on the Monte Subasio’. This walking connects two religious buildings which have been among the most important ones around Assisi. The abbey of Saint Benedict is documented since the 9th century and in the 13th century became an important monastery depending on the abbey of Farfa.

  • Spello and the church of S. Silvestro at Collepino - Full day
Spello stretches itself upon a hill protected by its ancient city walls. Through imposing gates and winding medieval alleys we will get to the Baglioni chapel, decorated with frescos by Pinturicchio, masterpieces of the Umbrian Renaissance. In the morning we will visit the old town and in the afternoon we will take the car uphill to the lovely small village of Collepino. From there we will go on foot up the mountain until reaching the Romanesque church of San Silvestro and the hut of Madonna della Spella.

  • The Eremo di Santa Maria Giacobbe at Pale and the abbey of Sassovivo - Full day
The spiritually charged atmosphere of Mount of Pale has been created by the long presence of generations of monks and hermits who built the hermitage of S. Maria Giacobbe upon its rocks. Not far away from it there is the abbey of Sassovivo, founded in the 9th century. During the morning we will visit the hermitage and in the afternoon the abbey with its charming Romanesque cloister.
