Umbria, in addition to being known for its mainly rural territory and suitable for holidays in the countryside, is certainly also famous for eating well. Eating well, also means being accompanied by a good wine and the latter is making Umbria famous in the world.
In fact, there are many production areas in the region, which have been divided into 6 macro-areas:
- Perugino-Assisano and the Torgiano area
- The hills overlooking Lake Trasimeno
- The Montefalco district
- The area of the Colli Martani and Todi
- The areas of the Ternano lake basins which also include Amelia
- The Orvieto area
Each area has its own particularity and type of production and the wines are very different from each other even though the crops are all located in a small region like Umbria.
Probably the best known area is that of the Montefalco district with the production of Sagrantino and Montefalco rosso. In this area there are over 40 wineries where it is possible to do wine tastings, cellar tours and tastings of typical Umbrian products. Among the best known in the area are the Scacciadiavoli winery and the Caprai Winery, two of the excellences of our territory.
In the Perugia and Assisi , there are many wineries that produce organic wine from Umbria. Among the oldest wineries that have made this choice there is certainly the Tili winery a few kilometers from Assisi.
If you like white wines, then you must visit the cellars in the area of Lake Trasimeno and Orvietano. Areas of production of white wines of excellence.
Almost all wineries in Umbria can welcome you to let you taste their wines and products.
Unfortunately, going around different wineries and making tastings could be risky for your driving license given the legislation of the traffic code, unless in your group there is a non-alcoholic person who can act as a driver.
