The Sagrantino hills and valleys
During this tour you will discover the Sagrantino di Montefalco wine area and its many small towns full of rich treasures, all of them located in the Valle Umbra. Not far away from those hills cultivated with vines you will find Foligno, a lively medieval centre with its charming sculpted Cathedral’s facade and the beautiful paintings of the nearby Palazzo Trinci.
After having admired the magnificent decorations carried out by Gentile da Fabriano and by the artists of the so-called Northern painting school, you will visit Montefalco and Bevagna. At Montefalco, high on a hill overlooking the Valle Umbra you will taste its famous local wines and you will visit the Museo di San Francesco with works by Benozzo Bozzoli. At Bevagna, a lovely medieval town in the valley below, you will see such historic buildings such as the Romanesque churches of San Michele and San Silvestro and also the 19th century Torti theatre. The Valle Umbra and especially Trevi are well known for the production of olive oil. So you can’t miss a visit to an oil mill with olive oil tasting and for those people interested also in less known art, the visit to the wonderful cloister of the Romanesque abbey of Sassovivo near Foligno.
