Assisi is located upon a long round hill and it is characterized by the warm pink colour of its unique stone, which stands in contrast to the green colour of the Subasio Mount. Assisi is mostly known for Saint Francis who was born there and who was the founder of the Franciscan order to which he gave his name. Before Francis, it had also been an ancient settlement of Umbrian tribes people and later on a Roman town. Thanks to Assisi’s rich history, its importance as a religious centre and its incredible architecture and art, it is a many-sided town which you could discover either slowly, returning many times, or in one beautiful and emotional day.
